The arc of Key 36

Turbulence is emotional crisis felt as chaos rather than as information. Humanity is what turbulence becomes when you have been through enough of it to recognise it in others, and Compassion is that recognition without pity.

The two poles of Turbulence

A Shadow is never only one behaviour. Each has a repressive pole, where the energy collapses inward, and a reactive pole, where it fires outward. Most people live mainly in one and visit the other under stress, and recognising which is yours is where the contemplation actually starts.

Repressed, it numbs the crisis and reports being fine. Reactive, it generates crisis so the feeling has somewhere to go.

Working with Turbulence

Turbulence and Humanity are not two different energies. They are the same one at two frequencies, which is why the instruction is never to replace turbulence with humanity. You watch turbulence run, without arguing with it, until it stops being automatic. What is on the other side of that watching is humanity, and compassion is the same thing again with nothing personal left in it.

Programming partner: Gene Key 6

Key 36 is paired with Key 6, which runs Conflict to Diplomacy to Peace. Partners sit opposite each other on the wheel of 64 and always move together, so turbulence and conflict tend to show up in the same person, in the same week, feeding each other.

The useful way to read the pair: when humanity is hard to reach, the block is often sitting in conflict rather than anywhere in Key 36. And diplomacy is usually what makes humanity sustainable rather than occasional. Contemplating one without the other is the most common way this system gets used badly.

Where Key 36 sits in the body

The Gene Keys share their 64 gates with Human Design, so Key 36 is also gate 36 in a bodygraph. It sits in the Solar Plexus, emotional waves, and it completes one channel, with gate 35.
